"Out For The Long Run"

Stay tuned for more news!

Tragoidia Moving Pictures is now in production of their third feature documentary tentatively titled, "Out For The Long Run".  Inspired by a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, the film's focus is on openly gay High School Athletes and will follow them through their Senior year in High School as they navigate the turbulent waters of their uncertain world.  Utilizing footage shot by our cameras and video diaries kept throughout the year by our subjects, we will show the world a new generation of courage in the most homophobic place on a high school campus:  the locker room.

This film will bring to light stories of triumph and tragedy when young people are forced to follow their passion for sports with the handicap of social stigma dogging their every step.  We'll also take a look at how the atmosphere for young people in high school has changed both for the good, and not so good.  Current openly gay professional and collegiate athletes will help us round out the picture of what these amazing young men and women are up against physically and emotionally as they excel in their chosen sports.

We are currently at the halfway point in production and hope to have wrapped shooting by graduation 2009.  Included in our film so far are 2 Olympic Gold Medalists, Two High School Senior athletes, 3 College Freshmen athletes, 2 athletic families, 3 coaches, several heterosexual teammates and an entire high school population.  Views on the subject run the gamut and all points of view are represented in this exciting new film.

We are still interested in speaking to athletes who play team sports, individual sports or any combination thereof.  We would most like to find young men and women who are out to their teammates, friends and family but we are also hoping to speak to athletes who are still struggling in the closet (whose identities will be kept confidential), as we would like to be able to present a balanced view of High School sports and beyond.  Students who aspire to use their athletic abilities to go on to college (via scholarship) and perhaps into professional sports, are of great interest as well.

Students wishing to participate in our project must be willing to commit to a one year video shoot (off and on), follow up post production pick ups, and be willing to video diary once a week.  Further details will be discussed with candidates during their pre-interviews.

All students wishing to be considered should respond via email with a short introductory letter to:
